A resident of Bathu Basti has reportedly lost over ₹8 lakh to an online trading scam after falling prey to fraudsters posing as representatives of the stock trading platform “Zerodha Security.” The case has been registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station, South Andaman.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the complainant received WhatsApp messages from unknown numbers in October 2024, offering investment opportunities through a trading platform. Convinced by the communication, the victim created an account and began investing.
Between October and November 2024, the individual transferred a total of ₹4,66,148 through multiple transactions. When a request was made to withdraw profits, only ₹98,000 was returned. Subsequently, the fraudsters demanded further payments as “service charges” and “taxes,” prompting the victim to transfer an additional ₹3,60,005.
After remitting a total of ₹8,26,153, the victim was neither able to withdraw the remaining funds nor receive any returns. Realizing it was a scam, the individual reported the matter to the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and later approached the Cyber Crime Police Station.
The FIR has been registered under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
