Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has called on the Administration to take immediate measures to strengthen the newly established Electricity Site Office at Beodnabad.

The MP highlighted that the office, recently set up in space provided by the Gram Panchayat at Beodnabad, was intended to ease the workload of the existing Birdline Electricity Site Office and improve service delivery to local residents. However, Mr. Ray expressed concern that the new office currently lacks field staff, a supervisory officer, a vehicle, and essential machinery, functioning merely as a complaint receiving centre.

Mr. Ray noted that the Birdline Site Office, operating with just one vehicle and limited personnel, continues to manage a vast area covering Ward No. 23, Gram Panchayat Calicut, Birdline, Makhapahad, Burmanallah, and Chidiyatapu. The shortage of staff and transport often leaves complaints from distant areas unattended for hours, causing significant inconvenience to the public.

During his visit to Ward No. 23, Birdline, on 21 September 2025, accompanied by the Chairman and Secretary of the Municipal Council, Mr. Ray personally received several complaints from residents regarding these issues. Taking serious note, he recommended the following measures to the Administration:

  1. Deployment of a supervisory officer along with adequate staff to the Beodnabad Site Office, either through diversion from other sections or outsourcing.
  1. Provision of necessary machinery and one vehicle to ensure prompt response to public complaints and line faults.
  1. Clear demarcation of jurisdiction between the Birdline and Beodnabad Site Offices to improve efficiency and service delivery.

Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray stressed that uninterrupted electricity supply is a basic necessity and that strengthening the Beodnabad Site Office will help streamline operations, reduce the burden on Birdline, and ensure timely service to the public.
