Beware of Hoax ‘New Pink Look WhatsApp’ as Andaman and Nicobar Police Issue Cybersecurity Advisory

WhatsApp users beware! claims about a ‘New Pink Look WhatsApp’ with additional features circulating among users have been confirmed as a hoax by Andaman and Nicobar Police. Not only is this false app not a legitimate WhatsApp update, but it also poses serious security risks that could lead to mobile device hacking through malicious software.

The prevalence of such deceptive tactics by cybercriminals is not uncommon. Fraudsters continuously employ various tricks to entice unsuspecting users into their traps, committing cybercrimes for their illicit gains.

In response to this alarming trend, the Andaman and Nicobar Police has issued a vital advisory to help safeguard individuals against the hoax ‘pink WhatsApp’ and other similar scams:

1. Do Not Install Pink WhatsApp: It is strongly advised not to install any application claiming to be a ‘pink WhatsApp’.

2. Uninstall Fake Apps: If by any chance you have already installed the fake app, it is crucial to remove it immediately. Navigate to your device’s settings, go to ‘Apps,’ locate ‘WhatsApp (pink logo),’ and uninstall it promptly.

3. Beware of Unverified Links: Never click on links received from unknown sources without proper verification or authentication.

4. Use Official App Stores: Always download and install apps exclusively from the official app stores provided by Google and Apple.

5. Avoid Forwarding Unverified Links or Messages: Do not forward suspicious links or messages to others without authenticating and verifying their legitimacy.

6. Protect Personal Information: Refrain from sharing personal information or financial details such as login credentials, passwords, credit or debit card details, or any other sensitive data online with anyone, as it can be misused for illicit purposes.

7. Stay Informed and Alert: Stay vigilant by keeping yourself updated on the latest news and activities of cyber fraudsters. Awareness is a powerful defence against online threats.
