Bharatiya Janata Party Observes Black Day on 49th Anniversary of Emergency

The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on 25th June 2024, observed Black Day, commemorating the 49th anniversary of what it termed the “Darkest Day in Democracy”—the day Emergency was imposed by the then government led by Indira Gandhi. 

The event began with a press conference held at Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Bhawan, the BJP head office at Middle Point. This was followed by a grand rally starting from the BJP head office and culminating at Maharastra Mandal, featuring a series of programs.

Mr. M. Vinod, State Vice President BJP and State Prabhari for Social Media, IT & Media Cell, as well as the Incharge of the Program, welcomed the gathering. The State President, Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, Mrs. Sheela Singh, State Vice President & National Executive Member of Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha, and Mr. Anil Tiwari, State Secretary of BJP A & N Islands, delivered speeches reflecting on the significance of Black Day. They spoke about the atrocities committed during the Emergency period.

Mr. Raghunath Kulkarni, Election Prabhari of A & N Islands, further enlightened the audience about the hardships faced during the Emergency. The event was attended by prominent BJP members, including Mr. L. Moorthy, National Council Member, BJP, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, State Vice President, and Mr. K. Ramdas, State General Secretary, along with other designated office bearers and karyakartas of the Bharatiya Janata Party. A large number of students from various educational institutions were also present.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Mohan Vinod, who expressed his gratitude to all the participants, the Social Media Team of BJP A & N Islands, and the entire team behind the Black Day program.
