Mr. TSG Bhasker, Chairman of the ANTCC Campaign Committee, has highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by school-going students and their parents in reaching schools on time during heavy rains. In a letter addressed to the Director of Education, A&N Administration, Mr. Bhasker expressed concerns over the severe delays caused by traffic congestion, particularly during inclement weather.
Mr. Bhasker stated that despite parents and students leaving early to avoid delays, they continue to struggle with reaching schools within the prescribed time. The Chairman pointed out that the Sri Vijaya Puram City has been grappling with intense traffic jams, especially during the morning hours, further exacerbated by the monsoon season.
One of the major traffic bottlenecks, according to Mr. Bhasker, is the route from Bathubasti Junction to Dairy Farm Junction, which consistently experiences congestion. He noted that commuters often need an additional 15 to 20 minutes to pass through this stretch, causing many students to arrive late at school.
“The poor condition of roads and ongoing construction work on key routes has only worsened traffic disruptions. These conditions have made commuting increasingly difficult, resulting in frequent delays for students,” Mr. Bhasker stated.
In light of these challenges, Mr. Bhasker has requested the Director of Education to consider granting a grace period of 15 minutes for students during periods of heavy rain, to accommodate the delays caused by traffic congestion.
