A resident of Bhathu Basti has fallen victim to an online investment fraud after being lured into a scam promising high returns in the share market. The victim, who has filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police, lost ₹50,000 to fraudsters operating through an international phone number.
According to the complaint, the victim received a WhatsApp call on February 15, 2025, from an individual identifying himself as Sanjay Kumar, who claimed to be an investment advisor. The fraudster convinced him to invest in an online trading scheme, assuring lucrative daily profits. Trusting the assurances, the victim transferred ₹50,000 to a bank account provided by the scammer.
However, soon after the transaction, the alleged fraudster became unresponsive, and his phone remained switched off. Realizing he had been duped, the victim approached the Cyber Crime Police, seeking action against the perpetrators. The FIR has been registered under Sections 318(4) & 319(2) of the BNS,2023.
The complainant has demanded an investigation into the matter, including efforts to trace the bank accounts and mobile numbers used in the scam.
Citizens should exercise caution while making online investments and verify the authenticity of financial advisors before transferring money.
