In a swift response to a shocking case of attempted murder, the Billiground Police successfully apprehended a man who had attacked his wife in a brutal knife assault following a family dispute. The incident occurred on September 18, 2024, when Arogiyaswamy, a resident of Betapur, allegedly attacked his wife, leaving her with multiple lacerated wounds. Fortunately, timely intervention by passersby saved the victim from further harm.

Upon receiving information about the incident, a team from PS Billiground, led by Station House Officer (SHO) Sub-Inspector M.V. Shiju Kumar, along with Assistant Sub-Inspectors Muthu and Rajni Babu, and Head Constables Bawali and Kamlesh, immediately rushed to the scene. They were joined by Police Constables Mustafa, Narayan, Abhijeet, Bhagirath, Silas, Selvam, and Ct Diwakar, all working in unison to manage the situation and track down the accused.

Following the assault, Arogiyaswamy fled into the dense jungle near Betapur, carrying the weapon used in the attack. A massive manhunt was launched, with police leveraging both technical intelligence and human inputs to trace his movements. Despite persistent rain and difficult forest terrain, the police were relentless in their search for the accused.

The efforts finally paid off on September 20, 2024, when the accused was found hiding in the Panchawati jungle, attempting to make his way closer to the road, likely in an effort to flee the area by vehicle. The police apprehended him, recovering the weapon he had concealed.

The accused, identified as Arogiyaswamy, 39, son of the late K. Villayan and a resident of Betapur, was arrested and charged under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of SDPO Rangat, Mr. Rahul L. Nair, IPS, and the overall direction of Mr. Rajeev Ranjan, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.
