Campbell Bay, 06 January 2023

Defence Minister, Mr. Rajnath Singh on 6th of January 2023, visited Campbell Bay, Great Nicobar Island. He landed at INS Baaz at Campbell Bay and met local Bharatiya Janata Party leaders before his scheduled programme. Later he proceeded to Indira Point and continued with his scheduled programme with Defence Personnel.

The local BJP Leaders of Great Nicobar failed to remind Mr. Rajnath Singh of the promises he made on 25th of August 2012 in a public meeting held at Mini Stadium, Campbell Bay. Mr. Rajnath Singh while addressing a Public Meeting at Campbell Bay on 25th of August 2012 in presence of the then MP, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray had promised that when BJP forms the Govt. they would pay the Tsunami Affected Farmers enhanced compensation and also return the land which had been taken by the UPA Govt. in lieu of compensation.

2014 saw the formation of the NDA Govt. under the leadership of Mr. Narendra Modi. NDA Govt. was once again elected to power by the people of India in 2019. 10 years have passed since Mr. Rajnath Singh, a seasoned politician made the promise to the people of Great Nicobar, but the promise remains unfulfilled.

When the BJP Leaders of Great Nicobar met Mr. Rajnath Singh today during his visit to Great Nicobar they could have easily reminded the leader of the promises he made during his last visit to the Island in 2012, but the leaders were more interested in a Photo Op.

Instead of a memorandum, bouquets made of fresh flowers were presented to the Minister which everyone knows will end up in thrash bins and will do no good for the remote Islanders of Great Nicobar.
