Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has formed a post-poll alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and is all set to lead the Port Blair Municipal Council. BJP had won 10 seats in the recently held polls for PBMC whereas Congress and its alliance partner DMK had won 11 seats together. Telugu Desam Party had won two seats and one independent candidate got elected.

Telugu Desam Party was sure to play the role of the kingmaker as both Congress and BJP did not have enough seats to cross the halfway mark of 12 by themselves. TDP has now decided to support BJP.

Independent Candidate who won the election from Ward No. 23 is also supporting BJP. With the support of TDP and the Independent candidate, BJP is now in a position to lead the council.

Port Blair Municipal Council has a total of 24 wards therefore 13 is the number of councillors required for instating the Chairperson.
