The State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, along with State Secretary Dr. R. Dev Das, met the Chief Secretary of the A&N Administration recently to highlight the challenges faced by the local fisheries sector.
During the meeting, the BJP leaders urged the Administration to implement the Central Government’s subsidy scheme—extended by the Ministry of Fisheries—for electricity and diesel consumption in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors. They specifically requested that the subsidy be provided on par with the benefits already extended to the agriculture sector in the islands. Responding promptly, the Chief Secretary directed the Department of Fisheries to take immediate action to extend subsidy benefits on electricity and fuel to those involved in fisheries and aquaculture.
