The residents of Great Nicobar were facing a lot of problems in travelling from Campbell Bay to Port Blair as well as from Port Blair to Campbell Bay because of irregular shipping services. Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, State Vice President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Mr. E S Rajesh, District President, Nicobar District, Bharatiya Janata Party wrote to the Secretary (Shipping), Andaman and Nicobar Administration requesting him to increase the frequency of ships to Campbell Bay.

The leaders requested the Secretary (Shipping) to arrange four sailings monthly for Campbell Bay via Nancowry and three sailings monthly to Campbell Bay via all ports (including Car Nicobar).

They further suggested that the four sailings monthly to Campbell Bat via Nancowry may be planned in such a manner that every week a ship is available for the residents. They added that the sailing dates may be tentatively fixed on 1st, 8th, 15th & 21st of every month. They also suggested that the three sailings for Campbell Bay via all ports may be tentatively fixed on 10th, 20th & 30th of every month.

The leaders informed Secretary (Shipping) that if tentative dates of sailings are fixed by the administration the residents will not face any inconvenience and they will be able to plan their journey in advance.

A ship has been scheduled for Campbell Bay on 18th of November 2021 from Port Blair following the request by the leaders of BJP. Earlier the ship used to be scheduled after a long gap.
