Mr. Raghunath Kulkarni, BJP National Prabhari for Andaman and Nicobar Islands, undertook a two-day visit to Great Nicobar Island on September 10 and 11, accompanied by Mr. Anil Kumar Tiwari, State President of BJP, A&N Islands.
On arrival at Campbell Bay, the leaders were accorded a warm welcome by local party workers at the helipad. A grand workers’ meeting was later held at the Campbell Bay Community Hall, drawing over 500 participants, including members from the ex-servicemen community.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Kulkarni emphasized the need to strengthen the party’s presence in Campbell Bay and highlighted the achievements of the Modi government. He elaborated on the Great Nicobar Project, which is in its final stage of approval by the Government of India. The mega project, with an estimated investment of over ₹72,000 crore, includes international-standard ports, container terminals, hotels, and other infrastructure.
“The project will not only transform the Islands’ economy but also contribute significantly to the nation’s growth by attracting international investment,” Mr. Kulkarni said. He urged locals to support the initiative and remain vigilant against what he described as “anti-national elements, opposition parties, and NGOs” opposing the development.
Mr. Anil Kumar Tiwari, in his address, spoke about the welfare and developmental initiatives of the Modi government, particularly for the poor. He also explained the recent reduction in Goods and Services Tax (GST) and its benefits for the common man. Stressing the strategic importance of the region, he described Great Nicobar residents as the “eyes and ears of the nation” at its southernmost frontier.
Mr. Tiwari further called upon the people to ensure BJP’s victory in all Panchayati Raj Institution seats in the upcoming local body elections.
Local leaders including Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Zilla Parishad Member and former BJP Vice President, and Mr. K.C. Murugan, Mandal President, also addressed the gathering.
Following the meeting, Mr. Kulkarni, accompanied by Mr. Tiwari and local leaders, toured several villages including Govind Nagar, Joginder Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Vijay Nagar, Fishermen Colony, and 1 KM area to interact with residents and hear their grievances.
Earlier, on September 10, the two leaders made a brief stop at Car Nicobar and met local BJP workers there.
It is noteworthy that Mr. Anil Kumar Tiwari, since taking charge as State President, has covered nearly all regions of the Islands—from Diglipur to Campbell Bay—within a short span.
