Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has directed a letter to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor and Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, pressing for the fulfilment of longstanding demands voiced by PRI (Panchayati Raj Institutions) Members. This plea also aims to resolve the protests staged by PRI Members from North and Middle Andaman.

In his correspondence, Mr. Bairagi underscored the persistent efforts made by PRI members who have repeatedly addressed their legitimate concerns to both the A & N Administration and the Government of India. Regrettably, these appeals have gone unheeded, compelling the members to resort to a path of Non-Cooperation. He emphasised the extensive support lent to the PRI members by the local villagers in their pursuit.

The letter reiterated the urgency for administrative intervention to address the demands put forth by the PRIs. Mr. Bairagi stressed that resolving these issues is pivotal for the comprehensive development of the islands, aligning with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s ideology of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas.”

The grievances voiced by the PRI Members of North and Middle Andaman span a range of crucial concerns. These include:

– Devolution of powers as outlined in the provisions of the 73rd Constitution Amendment Act.

– Ensuring equal rights and opportunities for North and Middle Andaman, akin to those in South Andaman District.

– Demanding the proper construction of NH-4 from Baratang to Diglipur, at par with the quality of highways in South Andaman District.

– Urging a CBI inquiry into the reasons contributing to the current state of NH-4 in North and Middle Andaman District.

– Appointment of medical specialists across various disciplines in District Hospital/CHC/PHC.

– Recruitment of teachers in schools situated in North and Middle Andaman, among other pressing demands.

The pressing need to address these demands lies at the core of fostering balanced development across the entirety of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The BJP State President’s letter stands as a pivotal call to action, highlighting the necessity for immediate resolution to ensure holistic growth and equitable opportunities for all regions within the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago.
