Mr. Anil Kumar Tiwari, State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has written to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor requesting an increase in the pension provided to old aged, widows and divyang beneficiaries in the Islands.

In his letter, Mr. Tiwari highlighted his interactions with various organisations and pension beneficiaries, noting that the present pension amount of ₹2,500 per month is inadequate to meet basic needs, especially in view of the rising cost of living in the Islands.

Describing the situation as “impossible for the marginalised sections to survive” under the current rates, Mr. Tiwari urged the Lt. Governor to sympathetically consider the plight of these vulnerable groups and enhance the pension to ₹5,000 per month.

He stated that such a step would go a long way in addressing the multiple challenges faced by poor and marginalised families in the Islands.
