A Basic Life Support (BLS) training session was successfully conducted at BJR Hospital, Car Nicobar, in collaboration with the Fire Service Department, Nicobar Division. The initiative aimed to enhance emergency response capabilities among healthcare workers and support staff.
Organised under the guidance of Dr. Grace, Medical Superintendent of BJR Hospital, and Mr. S.K. Vishnoi, Inspector (Fire), Nicobar District, the session was led by Dr. Mohammed Shafique, GDMO (Homoeo), along with Mr. S. Subba Raj, Station Officer, Fire Station, Car Nicobar.
The training focused on equipping participants with life-saving skills crucial during cardiac and respiratory emergencies. Key components of the session included Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), management of choking and convulsions, and fire safety measures. Practical demonstrations and hands-on exercises ensured that attendees could confidently implement these techniques in real-world situations.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Grace emphasized the significance of timely intervention during emergencies. “Basic Life Support is a fundamental skill that can make the difference between life and death. This training ensures that our team is better prepared to respond effectively in critical situations,” she said.
Dr. Sahina Sameer, SMO at BJR Hospital, encouraged the attendees to extend similar training to field-level workers such as ASHA and Anganwadi workers, further strengthening the region’s emergency preparedness.
Participants expressed gratitude for the initiative and pledged to apply their newfound knowledge in their professional roles. Many also highlighted the importance of regular capacity-building programs to ensure a robust and responsive emergency healthcare system in the Nicobar region.
