COVID-19 cases are being detected in Andaman and Nicobar Islands everyday. We have lost several lives due to the pandemic and everyday the daily wagers and the poor strata of the society are suffering because of the restrictions that had to be imposed to control the spread of the virus.
We as a society are still not serious about defeating COVID-19. We are still crowding at public spaces, not maintaining adequate distance in bank queues and ferries. We still roam without masks and risk our lives as well as lives of our family members and other citizens.
The second wave has devastated our country and people are gasping for oxygen in most metros. Many are dying because of non-availability of hospital beds, but we aren’t learning anything from the experience of our fellow countrymen.
Nicobar Times has time and again highlighted the violation of social distancing norms at queues in various banks in Port Blair city. This is the second time we are highlighting the violation of social distancing in-front of SBI Main Branch located at Mohanpura, Port Blair.
It is really unfortunate that the authorities of the bank are not paying attention on the violation of social distancing norms by their customers at their premises. Proper queue with social distancing should be maintained at the bank premises by deploying adequate number of security guards and unruly customers should be reported to the police.
This kind of violation of social distancing norms in public spaces will lead to transmission of the virus in more individuals, which will not only affect them but will affect their families and the society.
