A Block-Level Training Programme on ‘Promoting Child Participation in Decision Making Processes in Gram Sabha’ was successfully conducted at the Conference Hall of Gram Panchayat, Rampur, under CD Block Mayabunder. The initiative aimed to empower children by fostering their active involvement in grassroots decision-making processes.
The program began with a welcome address by Mr. Joseph, Block Development Officer, who highlighted the significance of incorporating children’s perspectives into community decisions. He emphasised that engaging children in governance is crucial for holistic development and inclusive planning.
Ms. C. Vijya, a Domain Expert on Women Empowerment, introduced the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and elaborated on the role of Bal Sabha and Bal Panchayat as vital platforms for child empowerment. Her insights aimed to create awareness about these initiatives and their potential to amplify children’s voices.
Ms. Deepika Baral, Counsellor with the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), focused on child rights, stressing the importance of providing children with opportunities to express their concerns and actively participate in community decision-making. She urged the stakeholders to prioritise these efforts for a more inclusive society.
In his address, Mr. Saw Thomson, Pradhan of the Gram Panchayat, shared his experiences in advocating for child protection and encouraged the community to uphold and safeguard child rights. He called for collective efforts to ensure that children are given platforms to contribute meaningfully to governance.
The training programme served as a stepping stone toward building an inclusive environment where children’s voices are heard and respected in local governance.
