In a proactive step towards managing the increasing population of roaming street bulls and enhancing public safety, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) conducted a bull castration programme across several localities of Sri Vijaya Puram city on March 12 and 13.

The initiative was carried out in Nayagaon, Anarkali, and Middle Point areas, where the Senior Veterinary Officer of Veterinary Hospital Junglighat personally performed the castration procedures. The programme aims to reduce aggressive behaviour among street bulls, thereby minimizing the risk of accidents and public disturbances in urban areas.

Officials stated that the intervention will also help check uncontrolled breeding of cattle in the city. At the same time, it promotes the adoption of Artificial Insemination (AI), a scientific and improved method that enhances the genetic quality and productivity of livestock.

The Veterinary Hospital Junglighat has been regularly undertaking such measures as part of its efforts to ensure a safer environment for residents while encouraging modern and humane animal husbandry practices.

Reaffirming its commitment, the Department stated that similar programmes will be conducted in other areas as needed. Members of the public have been urged to cooperate and report issues related to stray bulls to the nearest veterinary institution for prompt action.
