Business operators in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been reminded of the mandatory Goods and Services Tax (GST) registration requirements as per Section 22 of the CGST Act, 2017, read with Section 21 of the UTGST Act, 2017. The provision mandates all businesses whose aggregate turnover exceeds ₹40 lakhs (for suppliers of goods) or ₹20 lakhs (for service providers) in a financial year to register for GST in the Union Territory.
Failure to comply with this requirement will lead to penal actions as per Section 122 of the CGST Act, 2017, in conjunction with provisions under the UTGST Act, 2017. Business owners and operators who fall under the above categories are urged to complete their GST registration to avoid legal consequences.
For further clarification, business owners have been advised to approach the GST Suvidha Kendra located at the Department of UTGST, Zilla Nivas Complex, Opp. Govt. RBV School, Sri Vijaya Puram, Port Blair, PIN-744101.
In addition to the registration reminder, the Government of India has provided extensive support to taxpayers in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands through the GST Facilitation Centre (GST Suvidha Kendra), which has been operational since June 2017. The Centre, along with Help Desks at Common Services Centres across the islands, offers free assistance with GST registration, return filing, refunds, and other related queries.
Registered taxpayers in need of guidance or assistance are encouraged to visit the new office of the UTGST Department, located on the ground floor of the Old Zilla Parishad Building at the Zilla Nivas Complex, opposite Govt. RBV School, Sri Vijaya Puram. Taxpayers can also reach the department at 03192-203064/203065 for support with GST-related concerns.
