Campbell Bay, 23 August 2021

Ten candidates were recently recruited as Civil Defence Volunteers under Assistant Commissioner Office, Campbell Bay. Five of the ten candidates recruited to the post of Civil Defence Volunteers have close personal connections with the staff of Assistant Commissioner Office, alleged a group of candidates who visited the office of Nicobar Times and submitted a written complaint and requested that the news be published on our platform.

The relation of the recruited candidates with the staff working in the Assistant Commissioner Office, Campbell Bay was established by the candidates who approached Nicobar Times.

According to some candidates who appeared for the interview of Civil Defence Volunteer, one candidate recruited as CDV is the brother of a permanent staff of the Revenue Department, another recruited candidate is the brother-in-law of temporary staff working under Assistant Commissioner, Campbell Bay. Further, they alleged that one person recruited as CVD is the driver for the hired vehicle of a senior Revenue Staff. Another recruited candidate is the husband of temporary staff working under AC, Campbell Bay. The candidates further informed that another person recruited as Civil Defence Volunteer is a relative of temporary staff working under AC, Campbell Bay.

Nicobar Times is not publishing the names of the recruited candidates as well as the name of their respective relatives who are related to the Assistant Commissioner Office, Campbell Bay, to protect their privacy.

The candidates who approached Nicobar Times have informed us that in total five candidates out of the ten recruits are relatives or close associates of the staff working under the Assistant Commissioner Office, Campbell Bay.

Many candidates who appeared in the interview apart from those who approached Nicobar Times have also alleged that 50% of the selected candidates are products of nepotism.

Nicobar Times approached the Assistant Commissioner of Campbell Bay and asked him for clarification regarding the allegations of the candidates. The Assistant Commissioner said he has no comments on the allegations.

We further questioned him on the recruitment process and he informed us that the recruitment process is confidential and he cannot share it with the media.

All recruitments in India are transparent and the Govt. of India emphasises on transparency and accountability, but the Assistant Commissioner of Campbell Bay says that the recruitment process for hiring Civil Defence Volunteers is confidential.

It is highly unlikely that five candidates selected in the recruitment process will turn out to be the relatives and close associates of staff working under the Assistant Commissioner Office, Campbell Bay in a free and fair recruitment process.

The allegations on the recruitment of Civil Defence Volunteers should be investigated by an independent agency and the truth should be made public.

The recruitment of the Civil Defence Volunteers has become the talk of the town after the list of the recruited candidates were made public and the general public is surprised at how 50% of the relatives and close associates of the staff of Assistant Commissioner Office, Campbell Bay can be recruited in a free and fair recruitment process.
