Candidates Harassed by Authorities in name of Interview for Post of Sagar Mitra

Zonal Fisheries Office, Car Nicobar had advertised 17 Posts of Sagar Mitra under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana. The qualification for the post was ‘1. Fisheries Professional possessing a minimum Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries Science/Marine Biology/Zoology or Bachelor of Science. 2. Knowledge of Information Technology (IT).’

The Vacancy Notice also mentioned that ‘Local Resident of Nicobar District, not more than 35 Years old and with effective communication skills in local language’ are eligible.

On 21st January 2023, the Assistant Director of Fisheries, Zonal Fisheries Office, Car Nicobar released the list of 17 eligible candidates. He directed them to appear before the interview panel on 13th February 2023 and 14th February 2023 at 10:00 Am.

The candidates were also sent individual call letters for the interview, asking them to appear before the interview panel at Deputy Commissioner Office, Nicobar District.

Three candidates from outside Car Nicobar, from other Islands, reached Car Nicobar on time and visited the Deputy Commissioner Office for the interview.

A senior official later informed them that the interview was postponed and they should return.

The candidates were not informed regarding the interview postponement before arriving at Car Nicobar. The authorities know that it is both difficult and expensive for candidates to travel to Car Nicobar. However, they still postponed the interview after the candidates arrived at Car Nicobar.

Three candidates who had arrived at Car Nicobar from other Islands spent around Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 15,000 each in addition to their valuable time and energy to attend the Sagar Mitra Interview, but received nothing but pure harassment in return.
