In a poignant tribute to Late Leela Devi, a devoted Home Guard of the Andaman & Nicobar Police, the Atal Foundation’s Andaman & Nicobar Unit organised a candle march on 09th August 2024. The solemn procession, led by Mr. Azizur Rahman, State President of the Atal Foundation, began at the National Memorial Cellular Jail and concluded at Flag Point.
Leela Devi, tragically lost her life in the line of duty while attempting to stop an underage boy riding a speeding motorcycle without a helmet. The march served not only as a tribute to her bravery and sacrifice but also as a powerful reminder of the importance of road safety and adherence to traffic regulations.
The event saw the participation of over 100 individuals, including members of the general public, personnel from the Andaman & Nicobar Police, and the family of the late Leela Devi. Notable attendees included Mr. Shergill, former Naval Engineer and State President of the Atal Foundation, Chandigarh; Mr. M. Vinod, National Vice President of the Atal Foundation; and Mrs. Protima Banerjee, State General Secretary of the Atal Foundation. Their presence highlighted the significance of the event and the collective respect for a fallen hero.
The Atal Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting safety and awareness in the community and emphasised its ongoing dedication to honouring those who make the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
