The residents of Car Nicobar got all excited when M.V Sentinel berthed at Car Nicobar today. The lifeline of Car Nicobar Island is currently being commanded by a female Captain. Captain Meera Kumari berthed the vessel at Car Nicobar and according to the residents of Car Nicobar, it is probably the first time that a lady Captain has berthed the vessel at the Island.
Car Nicobar and other areas of Nicobar District exemplifies women empowerment. Gender role diminishes in the Islands of the Nicobar District as in the Tribal Nicobarese Community, women shoulder equal responsibility with the men.
To mark the occasion the Tribal Community Members of Car Nicobar led by Mr. Greatheart Nicobari, a Tribal Community representative felicitated Captian Meera Kumari by garlanding her and presenting flowers to her.
Greatheart Nicobari while speaking to Nicobar Times this evening over the phone said that the residents of Car Nicobar were overjoyed to see a female Captain commanding and berthing the vessel at Car Nicobar. He added that the the females of Car Nicobar will take inspiration and follow the footsteps of Captain Meera Kumari.
