Car Nicobar Observes World Soil Day with Awareness Program at GSSS Sawai

The Department of Agriculture, Car Nicobar, organized an informative event to mark World Soil Day at the Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS) Sawai, highlighting this year’s theme, “Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage.” The function aimed to raise awareness about the importance of soil health and its sustainable management.

Ms. R. Bhu Bharthy, Agriculture Officer, opened the event by welcoming the attendees and emphasizing the significance of accurate soil data. She stressed the need for monitoring and managing soil health to guide sustainable agricultural practices.

The program included a session by Mr. Abdul Hameed, Agriculture Field Assistant, who spoke about soil biodiversity and its crucial role in nutrient transformation. He highlighted the importance of conserving soil organisms, which are essential for the availability of nutrients to plants.

Ms. V.M. Mubashira Begum, Agriculture Technology Manager, shared insights on soil management and the adoption of scientific practices to improve soil health. Ms. Sameena Banu, PGT at GSSS Sawai, encouraged students to spread awareness about soil health and its management within their families and communities.

Around 86 students from Classes VI to XII, along with teachers from GSSS Sawai, attended the program, reflecting a strong community commitment to fostering sustainable soil management practices.
