CD Block Prothrapur Organises Training Programs to Encourage Participation of Rural Women and Children in Development of Gram Panchayats

The Community Development Block Prothrapur, under the Directorate of RD, PRIs & ULBs, A&N Administration, organised two training programs under the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) aimed at encouraging active participation of rural women and children in planning and decision-making processes for the holistic development of Gram Panchayats.

The first training, held on November 25 at the community hall of Gram Panchayat Calicut, focused on the topic “Addressing Child Needs through Bal Sabha.” The session was attended by Mr. T. Yaghabaram, Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Calicut, Mrs. Gurjeet Kaur, Block Development Officer, PRI members of GP Calicut, and Block Officials. The training also saw participation from students of Govt. Secondary School, Calicut, and DDU-GKY trainees of Aruthal Foundation Trust.

Resource persons Ms. Zarina Bibi, CDPO from the Social Welfare Department, along with Ms. Ankita Saha and Ms. Kiran Bhagwat from the District Child Protection Unit, South Andaman, led the program. Additionally, Mr. Ashish Shekhar, Panchayat Secretary, spoke about the importance of addressing child needs through Bal Sabha to foster community involvement.

The second training, conducted on November 26 at the conference hall of Panchayat Samiti Office, Prothrapur, marked an important step in empowering rural women to actively contribute to Panchayat development. Participants included members of Block Level Federations representing Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Village Level Organisations formed under the NRLM scheme, as well as Community Resource Persons (CRPs).

Mrs. Gurjeet Kaur, Block Development Officer of Prothrapur, served as the resource person, emphasizing the critical role of rural women in grassroots governance. She highlighted how their active involvement is essential for the sustainable development of Gram Panchayats.

These training programs, organized by the CD Block Prothrapur under RGSA, focused on addressing the challenges faced by rural women and children. They aimed to implement strategies for empowerment and promote policies that encourage their participation in decision-making processes within Panchayat development. The overall goal is to create a more equitable and just society by supporting women and children in shaping their communities.
