Chairman of National Commission for Safai Karamcharis Arrives on 5-Day Visit to A & N Islands

Mr. M. Venkatesan, the Hon’ble Chairman of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, arrived in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on a five-day visit to assess the welfare of Safai Karamcharis and related issues.

Upon his arrival, Mr. Venkatesan convened a comprehensive review meeting at the District Office in South Andaman. The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, South Andaman, along with senior officials such as the Secretary (Commissioner) for the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council, CMO/Dean of District Hospital, District Labour Officer, and representatives from the ESIC and EPF Departments.

Also present were the individual Safai Karamcharis, their association and union leaders, and officials from various sanitation-related sectors, including owners and workers of agencies managing toilets, bio-toilets, government toilets, MRF Centres, and solid waste management. The meeting further involved stakeholders responsible for sewer maintenance, as well as owners and directors of outsourced contractor agencies working in the sanitation sector.

This visit is part of the ongoing efforts to improve the working conditions and welfare of Safai Karamcharis.
