In observance of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, a community awareness programme was organised on June 25 at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Nancowry. The event aimed to educate the public on the dangers of drug abuse and promote a drug-free, healthy society.

A key highlight of the programme was a socially impactful skit performed by healthcare staff, vividly portraying the devastating effects of drug dependency on individuals, families, and the wider community. The performance was met with appreciation and resonated strongly with the audience.

The event witnessed active participation from Medical Officers, nursing and support staff, as well as members of the local tribal community, including Tribal Captains. In an effort to amplify the message, informative banners and slogans promoting a drug-free lifestyle were displayed throughout the health centre and nearby public areas.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. (Lt. Col.) Nirmal Kumar Bajpai, Medical Officer In-Charge, reaffirmed CHC Nancowry’s dedication to preventive healthcare and community outreach. He emphasized the vital role of awareness and education in tackling the growing menace of drug abuse.

The programme concluded with a pledge-taking ceremony, during which attendees committed themselves to support de-addiction efforts and foster a culture rooted in health, responsibility, and resilience.
