Admiral Karambir Singh, PVSM, AVSM, ADC Chief of Naval Staff visited Campbell Bay, Great Nicobar today. The CNS first arrived at Car Nicobar and was received by Lt Gen Manoj Pande, AVSM, VSM, Commander-in-Chief Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN) and then the dignitaries proceeded for Campbell Bay.
The Chief of Naval Staff was briefed on the operational preparedness and infrastructure aspects of the Andaman and Nicobar Command, including the readiness level of the command in the prevailing security scenario. CNS reviewed the operational assets of the command and expressed satisfaction at the level of readiness of the Andaman and Nicobar Command.
The Chief of Naval Staff also interacted with the troops of Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, DSC and GREF and also with the Defence Civilian Employees posted at Campbell Bay, one of the remotest parts of the country. CNS complimented all ranks for their performance and exhorted them to continue the good work and maintain high state of alertness and operational readiness in the prevailing security situation along the Northern borders.
Great Nicobar is an Island with great strategic significance for India. Great Nicobar is very close to the entrance of the Malacca Strait and is very close to the busiest shipping lane in the world.
The Chief of Naval Staff also advised the troops to take adequate safety measures for COVID-19 as their place of posting is very remote and with limited medical facilities. He further conveyed good wishes to the troops and their families on Diwali and distributed sweets to all ranks.
