Chief Secretary Highlights Various Initiatives of Administration to Boost Tourism in Islands

The four-day long 2nd Andaman Tourism Road Show, organised by the Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO) in association with the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, commenced with the inauguration by Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar (A&N) Administration, Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, at Hotel Mansha Regency on 13th June 2024.

In his address, the Chief Secretary extended a warm welcome to all delegates participating in the Andaman Tourism Road Show. He emphasised that Andaman is a significant discovery and recent developments have significantly boosted the tourism sector. Highlighting the scope of tourism in the Islands, he noted that the A&N Islands offer a rich diversity of activities in their pristine natural settings.

Mr. Chandra remarked that the A&N Islands are among the world’s most beautiful places, with one beach already holding a Blue Flag Certification. He announced that five more beaches would soon be opened to tourists, with the certification process in its advanced stages and monitored weekly. He emphasized the importance of tourism and fisheries, stating that efforts are being made to further propel these sectors.

The Chief Secretary also informed delegates about the recent opening of Cinque Island to tourists, urging them to visit and appreciate its scenic beauty while preserving its natural state.

Further elaborating on the Administration’s initiatives to boost tourism, Mr. Chandra discussed various tourism opportunities being pursued, including Natural Tourism, Night Kayaking, Luxury Tent accommodations, Caravan Tourism, Astro Tourism, and Game Fishing. He added that efforts are underway to make Heritage Circuit Tourism a reality soon, showcasing the unique aspects of A&N Islands to the world.

Mr. Chandra commended AATO and all tourism stakeholders and entrepreneurs for their efforts in promoting the tourism sector. He called upon them to collaborate with the Administration to further enhance the Islands’ tourism industry.

The 2nd Andaman Tourism Road Show is expected to bring together key stakeholders to discuss and explore the expanding tourism potential of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, aiming to position the region as a premier global tourist destination.
