Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, undertook a day-long official visit to Rangat and Long Island on 3rd May 2025, to assess ongoing development projects and engage directly with local stakeholders, reaffirming the Administration’s commitment to inclusive and grassroots-focused governance.
During his visit to Rangat, the Chief Secretary chaired a high-level meeting with members of the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Heads of Offices (HoOs), in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner of North & Middle Andaman, Secretary (PWD/Shipping), Secretary (IP&T/CA), and other senior officials. PRI representatives raised several pressing local concerns and developmental issues, which Dr. Kumar attentively addressed, assuring necessary redressal through appropriate administrative channels.
As part of his itinerary, Dr. Kumar visited the Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Rangat, where he interacted with students and teachers engaged in skill development programs being conducted under Centrally Sponsored Schemes during the summer break. He commended the efforts to enhance youth employability through practical training initiatives.
The Chief Secretary also inspected the Community Health Centre (CHC), Rangat, to review the existing healthcare infrastructure and service delivery. He held discussions with medical officers and para-medical staff, placing particular emphasis on the management and disposal of biomedical waste.
In a bid to explore opportunities for sustainable tourism, Dr. Kumar visited Raman Bagicha Beach at Nimbutala, assessing its potential for tourism development and the need for enhanced infrastructure and amenities to support visitor engagement.
Later in the day, the Chief Secretary traveled to Long Island, where he laid the foundation for new footpaths and inaugurated recently constructed pathways developed by the Zilla Parishad. These infrastructural upgrades are expected to significantly improve mobility and connectivity for the local population.
The visit underscored the Administration’s proactive approach in addressing developmental challenges, improving infrastructure, and ensuring that the benefits of governance and growth extend to even the most remote corners of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
