Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary of A&N Administration, conducted an inspection of the ongoing Marine Esplanade construction near Flag Point on 29th November 2024, to assess the project’s progress. Accompanied by senior officials including Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman, Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, and Secretary (SVPMC), Mr. Azharuddin Zahiruddin Quazi, IAS, the Chief Secretary visited the site to review the current status of work.
During the inspection, Dr. Kumar emphasised the importance of completing the project promptly to minimise disruptions for commuters. He urged officials to maintain strict adherence to timelines, while ensuring high standards of safety and quality.
Key safety measures were discussed, with specific instructions given to address dark patches by installing adequate lighting. Additionally, the installation of clear signage and caution boards was recommended to enhance pedestrian and commuter safety.
The Chief Secretary also emphasised the need for aesthetic integration of the walkway with the natural beauty of the area. Authorities were directed to focus on creating an attractive and functional pedestrian path that would allow uninterrupted walks from Marina Park to Corbyn’s Cove, benefiting both locals and tourists.
The project’s completion is expected to significantly improve the experience of visitors and residents alike, enhancing the coastal area’s appeal.
