Chief Secretary Undertakes Two-Day Visit to Car Nicobar; Focus on Tribal Welfare and Development Initiatives

Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, undertook a two-day official visit to Car Nicobar on August 8 and 9, accompanied by a high-level team of senior officers. The visit focused on reviewing the implementation of government schemes and addressing developmental priorities in health, education, power, agriculture, transportation, water supply, sports, and social welfare, with a special emphasis on tribal welfare in the Nicobar District.

The delegation included Ms. Purva Garg, IAS, Secretary (APWD & Shipping); Ms. Pallavi Sarkar, IAS, Secretary (Agriculture & AH&VS); Ms. Jyoti Kumari, IAS, Secretary (Fisheries & IP&T); Ms. Richa, Secretary (Health); Mr. Pravesh Ranjan Jha, Secretary (CS&CA) & Director (Power); Mr. Vikram Singh, Director (Education & Sports); and Mr. Prijit Rekh, Chief Engineer (APWD).

Day One (Aug. 8): The visit commenced with the Chief Secretary paying homage at the Tsunami Memorial, Lapathy, followed by an inspection of the Mus Jetty to review sea erosion concerns. He then visited GSS Tamaloo School, interacting with students and motivating them to pursue education with dedication.

Meanwhile, accompanying officers inspected BJR Hospital, agricultural plantations at Arong, the Electricity Power House, various schools, and the Veterinary Farm at Arong. A meeting with Tribal Council and Village Council representatives was held to address community issues, with directions issued to concerned departments for prompt resolution. The Chief Secretary later chaired a meeting with local Heads of Departments, urging them to extend full support to residents and work for their welfare. The day concluded with a visit to the District Library at Perka.

Day Two (Aug. 9): The Chief Secretary began the day at SAI Stadium, interacting with young athletes and reviewing training programmes. At the farm of Mr. Patrick in Tapoiming, he planted and distributed spice saplings to farmers and visited the local Anganwadi, engaging with children.

He later inaugurated a mass livestock distribution programme at the Community Hall, Tapoiming, handing over chicks, goats, and piglets to farmers to promote integrated farming. Stressing the benefits of diversification into vegetables, spices, poultry, goat, and pig farming, he encouraged community participation in organic and sustainable agriculture to boost nutrition and income.

The Deputy Commissioner, Nicobars, assured that the district administration will address all issues raised during the visit in coordination with departments to ensure swift and efficient progress of development initiatives in Car Nicobar. (Story Based on PR)
