Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar (A&N) Administration, Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, recently visited the Fisheries Museum-cum-Aquarium managed by the Department of Fisheries. He was accompanied by Commissioner-cum-Secretary, A&N Administration, Ms. Nandini Paliwal, IAS, and Secretary (Fisheries), Mr. Vishwendra.
During the visit, the Director of Fisheries, Mr. Vikram Singh, outlined proposed developmental projects aimed at revamping the museum and aquarium. The planned enhancements include larger aquarium tanks, exclusive cylindrical tanks, and state-of-the-art touch pools designed to boost tourism and enhance visitor interaction with marine biodiversity.
Deputy Director of Fisheries provided a detailed briefing on the live marine ornamental fish, corals, and preserved marine specimens currently on display at the facility.
Mr. Chandra expressed keen interest and commended the Department of Fisheries for their efforts in maintaining and showcasing marine ornamental fishes. He also directed the department to exhibit live aquariums and install prominent, attractive signage to captivate tourists.
The proposed upgrades are expected to significantly enhance the educational and aesthetic appeal of the Fisheries Museum-cum-Aquarium, making it a more engaging destination for both residents and visitors.
