In a historic move to empower the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVGT) of Jarawas and promote their participation in the democratic process, a special program was held at their hamlet for the issuance of fresh Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPIC).
Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary of A&N Administration, visited the hamlet to personally oversee the process. He was joined by Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman, and Mr. Vinayak Chamadia, IAS, Additional District Magistrate/Sub-Divisional Magistrate. Their presence underscored the administration’s commitment to inclusivity and ensuring representation for all communities.
Through this initiative, 19 members of the Jarawa tribe were successfully enrolled in the voters list, marking a significant milestone in integrating marginalised communities into the electoral process. This effort guarantees their constitutional right to vote and reflects a broader objective of fostering equality and inclusivity within the democratic framework.
The initiative highlights the A&N Administration’s commitment to ensuring that every eligible citizen, regardless of their geographical or cultural background, has the opportunity to exercise their voting rights and contribute to the nation’s democratic fabric.
