Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration, undertook his maiden visit to Mayabunder on 21st December 2024, engaging with local stakeholders and inspecting key developmental projects aimed at boosting the region’s infrastructure and socio-economic growth.

The visit began with a tour of Aves Island, part of the ambitious 4-Island Project, which promises to play a pivotal role in the region’s economic and infrastructural development. The Chief Secretary was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, Ms. Nandini Maharaj, IAS, along with Divisional Forest Officers, Assistant Commissioners, and Sub-Divisional Police Officers.

One of the key highlights of Dr. Kumar’s visit was a meeting with representatives from the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) of the district. The session provided an opportunity for local leaders to raise various concerns, including community issues and regional needs. The Chief Secretary assured them of swift and effective action to resolve grievances, highlighting the administration’s commitment to providing timely administrative support.

In a bid to enhance educational infrastructure, Dr. Kumar inaugurated a newly constructed 20-bedded boys’ hostel at the Government Model Senior Secondary School in Mayabunder. The hostel is designed to improve accommodation facilities for students, particularly those from remote areas, and is expected to contribute significantly to the overall educational development of the region.

During his interactions, Dr. Kumar emphasised the administration’s focus on holistic development, with particular attention to infrastructure improvement, better educational facilities, and addressing public concerns. The visit is seen as a strong indication of the administration’s dedication to fostering growth and ensuring that the district’s developmental needs are met.
