Chief Secretary Visits Nicobari Home, Reviews Retaining Wall Construction and Community Concerns

The Chief Secretary of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, along with Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, and other senior officials, visited the Nicobari Home at South Point village on 27th September 2025. Representatives of the Nicobari tribal community were also present during the visit.

The visit was undertaken to assess the impact of the recent landslide near the Nicobari Home and to review the progress of the ongoing construction of a retaining wall designed to safeguard the site. While inspecting the works, the Chief Secretary stressed the importance of completing the retaining wall within the stipulated timeframe to ensure the safety of the structure and its residents.

During the interaction, Nicobari community representatives raised concerns regarding the upkeep and renovation of the Nicobari Home. The Chief Secretary directed the concerned Nodal Departments to take prompt action to address these issues.

The visit underscored the Administration’s commitment to preserving community assets and ensuring the welfare of the Nicobari people. By addressing both infrastructural needs and community concerns, the Administration reaffirmed its resolve to respond to local requirements in a proactive and timely manner.
