In a crackdown on illegal gambling activities, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducted a decisive raid on December 22, 2023, in the Prothrapur area near Atta Chakki. Acting swiftly on intelligence reports, the CID team zeroed in on a location where multiple individuals were engaged in illicit gambling operations.
The raid, orchestrated by the CID Unit, unfolded as a group of people attempted to evade authorities, only to be apprehended by the vigilant police team. Seven individuals involved in the unlawful gambling activities were swiftly detained, preventing their escape from the site.
During the operation, a substantial sum of cash amounting to Rs. 1,46,400/- was seized from the possession of those involved, board money totalling Rs. 58,700/- was confiscated, marking a significant dent in the illicit proceedings.
Under the legal purview of Sections 5/7 of the Andaman and Nicobar Gambling Regulation Act of 1951, the arrested individuals are being prosecuted. The stringent legal action underscore the authorities’ commitment to upholding the law and eradicating unlawful activities from the region.
