The Joint Platform of Central Trade Unions and mass organisations today observed a nationwide protest calling for demonstrations at district headquarters and workplaces against the notification of the four Labour Codes.

In the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) organised a mass demonstration in front of the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council office at around 3.30 pm. According to organisers, hundreds of workers from unions affiliated with CITU participated in the programme.

Addressing the gathering, B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary of the CITU State Committee, criticised the Central Government over the notification of the labour codes issued on 21 November 2025. He described the laws as anti-worker and alleged that they favour corporate interests.

D. Ayyappan, Vice President of the CITU State Committee, spoke on the background of repealing 29 existing labour laws and replacing them with the four codes. He said that the codes were passed in Parliament in 2019 and during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. He added that, in his view, several existing benefits for workers may be reduced once the new provisions are implemented.

As part of the demonstration, participants symbolically burnt copies of the labour codes.

Other speakers included SP Kalairajan, Secretary of the CITU State Committee. The protest was led by R. Surendran Pillai, President, along with Secretaries Anand Rajan and M. Yugander.
