Sri Vijaya Puram, 04 November 2024

In a significant move to regulate the aggregator sector, the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has unveiled the Draft Motor Vehicle Aggregator Scheme, 2024. This initiative aligns with the amended Motor Vehicles Act (MV Act) of 2019, specifically Section 93, which mandates that no individual can operate as an aggregator without obtaining the necessary license from designated state authorities.

The Central Government has provided Draft Motor Vehicle Aggregator Scheme, 2024 and based on this framework, the UT’s Draft Motor Vehicle Aggregator Scheme has been developed with the approval of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor. The draft scheme aims to ensure compliance with national standards while fostering the growth of transportation services in the region.

The draft is now accessible to the public on the Departmental website, inviting claims and objections from citizens. Stakeholders and interested parties are encouraged to submit their feedback within 30 days from the publication date (i.e. 9th October 2024). Suggestions and objections can be directed to the Secretary, State Transport Authority, Transport Department, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, or sent via email to dirtpt.and@nic.in.

This public consultation phase reflects the administration’s commitment to transparency and stakeholder engagement as it seeks to create a robust framework for motor vehicle aggregators in the A&N Islands.
