Mr. Madhu S Nair, CMD of Cochin Shipyard Limited, visited the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to attend the 279th Board Meeting of the company. During his visit, he met with Admiral D K Joshi, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of the A&N Islands and Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, at Raj Niwas in Sri Vijaya Puram.
The delegation from Cochin Shipyard briefed the Lt. Governor on the progress of the implementation and operationalization of the agreement between CSL and the Andaman and Nicobar Ship Repair Unit (CANSRU). The goal of this partnership is to establish the A&N Islands as a regional hub for shipbuilding and ship repair.
Lt. Governor Joshi stressed the importance of accelerating the development of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for modernizing the Marine Dockyard and the overall ship repair infrastructure in the Islands. He also urged the establishment of an emergency repair team to handle urgent short-term repairs and the development of ancillary industries in Sri Vijaya Puram. Additionally, he suggested forming partnerships with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and other competent agencies to facilitate specialised repairs at Marine Dockyard.
