In a concerted effort to tackle drug-related activities, the Anti-Narcotics Police Station carried out a targeted operation on April 1, 2024. Acting on precise intelligence suggesting the trafficking of contraband via courier services, a specialised team from the Anti-Narcotics Police Station, led by Mr. Vishesh Dhatterwal, DANIPS, Dy.SP (Narcotics), CID, conducted a raid at the Head Post Office in Aberdeen, Port Blair.
The operation, which was under the supervision of Mr. Rajeev Ranjan, IPS, SP (CID), A&N Islands, resulted in the apprehension of Mr. G Neeraj, a student pursuing B.A in Political Science at Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyaya (JNRM), Port Blair. Mr. Neeraj, a resident of Pongichaung, Port Blair, was found in possession of a parcel containing 325 grams of Ganja. The illegal substance had been transported from the mainland using government postal courier services.
The team, consisting of Insp. S Kannan, SHO Anti-Narcotics Police Station, SI Mohd Rahil Islam, HC/786 Abdul Salaam, PC/2836 M. Raja, acted swiftly upon gathering intelligence and executed the raid effectively. Mr. Neeraj, the sole individual arrested in connection with the incident, is the son of Late P Gopal.
A case has been registered against Mr. Neeraj under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act-1985 at the Anti-Narcotics Police Station. Further investigations are underway to uncover any additional links to the trafficking network.
