On June 30, 2024, a significant awareness program was organized in collaboration with Ward No. 01 Councilor Mr. Shahul Hameed and local NGOs, addressing the critical issue of suicide prevention. The event, themed “Celebrate Life, It’s Precious,” aimed to spread awareness, foster community engagement, and highlight the importance of suicide prevention.
The program was graced by the Chief Guest, Ms. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, SP(D)SA, alongside Dr. Mitesh Behari, Consultant Neuropsychiatrist (MBBS, MD (PSY)), and Inspector Rasheeda, SHO PS Chatham. These esteemed guests underscored the critical importance of mental health awareness and robust community support in preventing suicides.
Ms. Niharika Bhatt emphasised the necessity of early intervention, fostering open dialogues, and ensuring accessible resources for individuals grappling with mental health challenges. Her speech highlighted the need for communities to support individuals at risk and to promote mental well-being.
Approximately 90-100 participants attended the event, reflecting the community’s commitment to addressing this urgent issue. The program included informative sessions, discussions, and resources to support those in need. Experts provided insights into recognising warning signs of suicidal behaviour, offering help, and connecting individuals with appropriate mental health services.
This initiative marks a significant step in promoting mental well-being and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health challenges. It serves as a powerful reminder that every life is valuable and that reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. By raising awareness and fostering a supportive community, we can work together to prevent suicides and celebrate the preciousness of life.
