Competitions Mark World No Tobacco Day, Spotlighting Youth Talent and Tobacco Awareness

To mark World No Tobacco Day, the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) organized a Poster Making and Essay Writing Competition that witnessed enthusiastic participation from individuals of all age groups across the region. The event served as a powerful platform to spread awareness about the dangers of tobacco and reinforced this year’s theme, ‘Protecting Children from Tobacco Industry Interference’.

In the Poster Making Competition, Amar Biswas (28) secured the first prize, followed by L Lishma Shann Mathew (27) in second place, and Saamvee Kaligithi (12) taking the third spot. Consolation prizes were awarded to Nandini Mistry (23) and K Shruti (18) for their commendable efforts.

In the Essay Writing Competition, Diya Bawali (20) emerged as the first prize winner. The second and third prizes went to Samira Banu (31) and Prajakta Roy (17) respectively, while B Sirisha (18) and Shaheen Begum (31) received consolation prizes.

The entries were judged based on creativity, clarity of message, and overall impact. The winners will receive prize money of ₹3000 for first place, ₹2000 for second, ₹1500 for third, and ₹500 each for the consolation prizes.

Through these competitions, the NTCP aimed to foster greater community engagement in the fight against tobacco use, especially by empowering youth and highlighting the manipulative tactics of the tobacco industry targeting younger populations.
