The District Congress Committee (South Andaman) observed the Adoption of the Constitution Day — referred to by the party as Samvidhan Bachao Divas — at the Congress Office, Sri Vijaya Puram, on Wednesday. The programme was held under the supervision of ANTCC President Mr. Rangalal Halder and led by District Congress Committee President Mr. John Robert Babu.

Speakers at the event reiterated the significance of safeguarding the core constitutional values of Justice, Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity. The party emphasized that protecting the Constitution is a shared duty of citizens and institutions, especially at a time when, according to party speakers, democratic frameworks face increasing challenges.

A major highlight of the programme was the expression of concerns over alleged irregularities in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Party leaders claimed that manipulation within the revision process could undermine democratic participation and weaken the integrity of the electoral system.

The Congress stated that the observance of Samvidhan Bachao Divas serves not only as a remembrance of the Constitution’s adoption but also as a reaffirmation of the party’s commitment to defending democratic rights and constitutional principles.

Several senior leaders were present during the programme, including Mr. G. Bhasker, AICC Member & Chairman of the Campaign Committee, and Mr. Hamid Ali, AICC Member, along with ANTCC spokespersons, TCC members, block presidents, leaders of Congress Seva Dal, Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, NSUI, UWEC, RGPRS, as well as representatives from City Congress, Fisherman Congress, PRI bodies, Zilla Parishad, and Municipal Councillors.

The event concluded with a collective pledge to uphold democratic values and continue efforts to protect the Constitution.
