Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee President Mr. Rangalal Halder has voiced strong concern over the inordinate delay in the repair and maintenance of the Dharamsala situated near Marina Park, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC).

In a letter addressed to the Secretary of SVPMC, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Mr. Halder pointed out that the facility has remained in a state of disrepair for over a year, with no substantial progress in renovation work. He said the prolonged inaction has rendered the Dharamsala unusable, severely affecting inter-island travellers who rely on it for affordable accommodation, especially those accompanying patients seeking medical treatment in Sri Vijaya Puram.

“The delay raises serious questions about the efficiency and commitment of the contractor executing the project,” Halder stated, emphasizing the need for immediate administrative intervention. He criticized the lack of accountability, which he said is causing significant hardship to vulnerable sections of the population.

Calling the situation “unacceptable,” Mr. Halder urged the administration to investigate the reasons behind the delay, expedite the repair work, and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. He appealed for swift and decisive action to restore the Dharamsala’s functionality in the larger interest of public welfare.
