The Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC) has mounted a strong opposition to the proposed electricity tariff hike, while also sharply criticising the Administration for the prevailing power crisis in South Andaman.

During a public hearing organised by the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) at the DBRAIT Auditorium, ANTCC President Mr. Rangalal Halder and Campaign Committee Chairman Mr. TSG Bhasker lambasted the Electricity Department’s move to burden consumers with higher tariffs despite persistent service shortcomings.

Earlier in the day, on August 13, 2025, the Congress Party held a press conference where its leaders denounced the Administration for attempting to raise tariffs at a time when the Electricity Department has been unable to provide adequate power supply to residents and businesses.

Several Congress leaders and PRI members from South Andaman joined the protest, condemning both the tariff proposal and the continuing power shortages.

The Congress Party has unanimously demanded that the proposed tariff hike be withdrawn immediately and urged the JERC to prioritise the interests of the common people over revenue considerations.
