Port Blair, 23 November 2022

Andaman and Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee will organise a Mass Rally, Dharna and Public Meeting in Support of 100% Job Reservation for Islanders on 29th November 2022.

The rally will commence from Gandhi Bhavan at 11 Am and will proceed to Clock Tower and will culminate at Tiranga Park. The leaders of Congress and other participants in the rally will sit on Dharna at Tiranga Park after the culmination of the rally till 06:00 Pm.

A Public meeting will also be organised during the Dharna.

Demand for 100% Job Reservation for Islanders has been raised by various political parties from time to time. Demonstrations and protests have also been organised in the past to press for the implementation of 100% Job reservation for Islanders.

Common Recruitment Examination for Various Group C Posts was held on 20th November 2022, in which 39000 candidates had applied online for 565 vacancies, out of which around 87% of candidates attended the exam. Many people allege that a large number of the candidates who attended the exams are non-Islanders.

Andaman and Nicobar Administration is planning to fill up thousands of vacant posts in various departments on mission mode. The progress of filling up vacant posts in Andaman and Nicobar Administration is being monitored at the highest level.

As recruitment for more vacancies will be announced soon, therefore many residents of Andaman and Nicobar Islands are demanding 100% Job Reservation for Islanders. The contention of those demanding 100% Job reservation is that the candidates from the Islands cannot compete with their counterparts who have had better educational opportunities in Mainland India.

All political parties functioning in Andaman and Nicobar Islands support the demand for 100% Job Reservation for Islanders, but nothing substantial has been achieved in this regard until now.

Earlier, the Mass Rally, Dharna and Public Meeting was announced by ANTCC on 25th November 2022, but was later postponed to 29th November 2022, owing to arrival of delegates from various countries for G20 Event.
