The 75th year of Indian Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas, was celebrated with great enthusiasm across schools, higher educational institutions, and government offices in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The event, which took place on November 26th, marked the contributions of the architects of the Indian Constitution, including Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and aimed to raise awareness about the Constitution’s fundamental principles.
The celebrations were organized by the Directorate of Education, A&N Administration, and involved numerous institutions such as JNRM, ANCOL, DBRAIT, Law College, TGCE, ITI, DIET, and various government and private schools. Students and staff participated in activities designed to promote democratic ideals and civic responsibility, underscoring the importance of the Constitution in shaping India’s inclusive future.
The day’s events began with the reading of the Preamble during morning assemblies, followed by a brief introduction to the Constitution’s making and its key features. The primary objective of the celebration was to instil a sense of constitutional responsibility among students and create awareness about the document that ensures justice, equality, and rights for every citizen.
In his address, the significance of the Constitution was emphasised, especially its role in binding India’s diverse cultures, languages, and religions into a unified nation. Activities such as talks by eminent scholars, painting and poster-making competitions, declamations on the Constitution’s importance, and community awareness campaigns were also organised to highlight its values.
Additionally, an oath was administered by the heads of schools and offices, encouraging all to uphold the principles of the Constitution. As a mark of respect, a tribute was paid to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Constitution, recognising his immense contribution to its formation.
The Constitution Day celebration witnessed the participation of 67,703 students, 5,757 teachers, and staff from 408 schools across the islands. The event reinforced the message of national unity and integrity, reminding all of their duties and responsibilities as citizens of a progressive and inclusive India.
