The Core Committee Members of Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands met the Hon’ble Defence Minister Mr. Rajnath Singh after he arrived at Port Blair today. During the meeting Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, BJP, A & N Islands, Mr. Vishal Jolly, National Executive Member, BJP, Mr. L Moorthy, National Council Member, BJP, Mrs. Sheela Singh, State VP, BJP, Mr. M Vinod, State VP, BJP, Mr. K Ram Das, State General Secretary, BJP, Mrs. Pramila Kumari, Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad (South Andaman) and Mrs. Kavita Udhaya Kumar, Chairperson, PBMC were present.
The leaders requested the Hon’ble Defence Minister to expedite the ongoing Upgradation Work of Port Blair Runway. The leaders informed that they understand that the upgradation work is important but they requested that the work should be completed as early as possible by engaging the workforce in multiple shifts. They also requested the Defence Minister to ensure that the Airport remains fully operational for maximum number of days, as it is the lifeline for the residents of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. They also demanded that a defence aircraft be kept on standby and at the disposal of the Civilian Authorities to transport critical patients as and when the need arises.
The leaders also requested that the extension of Shibpur Airport at Diglipur and Airports at Car Nicobar and Campbell Bay be completed in a time-bound manner to facilitate flights under the UDAN Scheme.
The leaders also demanded Air Connectivity to Diglipur thrice a week by using Defence Aircraft to facilitate patients and other travellers.
Hon’ble Defence Minister assured to consider all issues raised by the party delegation.
