As part of a new initiative decided during the CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee meeting on July 20, 2024, the party has commenced a series of ward visits aimed at interacting with the public and addressing local issues. On August 4, a delegation of CPI (M) leaders, led by State Secretary Mr. D. Ayyappan, visited various parts of Ward No.1 in the Port Blair Municipal area.

During the visit, the CPI (M) leaders noted several pressing issues faced by the residents. They observed that many footpaths and urban roads in Ward No.1 are in a state of disrepair due to the Port Blair Municipal Council’s (PBMC) failure to undertake necessary maintenance. Additionally, they reported that garbage accumulation in various areas is causing significant inconvenience to nearby residents.

Residents also expressed concerns over non-functional street lights, which have been out of service for several months despite repeated complaints to the authorities. Another major issue highlighted by the community was the persistent power disruptions affecting Port Blair town.

Accompanying the State Secretary on the visit were CPI (M) leaders D. Laxman Rao, SP Kalirajan, NKP Nair, and KG Samkutty. The team engaged with a cross-section of the community to better understand their grievances and gather firsthand information on the local challenges.

The CPI (M) aims to continue these ward visits in other parts of Port Blair to ensure that public concerns are heard and addressed effectively.
